Summary: "Lieutenant Cadman," he paused. "Yes, even brilliant scientists trying to save Ancient cities from annihilation have to eat."
All Rodney's Secrets
"Taking a break, Rodney?"
Rodney's shoulders immediately slumped and that look of irascible agitation colored his face. "Lieutenant Cadman," he paused. "Yes, even brilliant scientists trying to save Ancient cities from annihilation have to eat."
His eyes rolled as Laura Cadman set her tray down on his table and pulled out a chair.
"Oh, now—you're not really going to—" he began as she sat down.
"What's the matter, Rodney? I don't bite you know. I mean you of all people—"
"Stop right there!" Rodney lowered is voice. "I thought we agreed to never discuss that."
"You made that rule—remember?" she replied. "And don't think I don't know why."
"What? Of course you know why. You know everything. You were inside my head for God's sake—knowing my thoughts—me knowing yours. Oh God—I couldn't face
Laura squinted at Rodney. "Not to mention that you kissed him." She chuckled.
Rodney closed his eyes, there was no point in trying to argue with her. He picked up his cup and attempted to wash her words down with the strong coffee. "You know what I mean," he said, trying to remain calm.
"Yeah, that was a two-way street, McKay," she said, flashing him a cheeky smile.
Rodney blanched. "You are leaving as soon as this thing is over, right?
"Oh come on, Rodney. Why don’t you like me? You should be nice to me. After all, I know all your secrets."
"What?" Rodney's eyes widened in horror as Cadman smiled again.
"What is this, some kind of blackmail? Jesus—I'm perfectly happy to leave you alone—why can't you do the same?"
"Aww, because you're so cute when you're flustered, McKay. Like now."
"Oh, for—"
"Okay, okay—I'll stop. Truce? For real this time?" she asked.
Rodney eyed her warily. "Really?"
"Really."
"Agreed," Rodney said. "Now, if you'll just—" he got up from the table, taking his tray.
"Just one more thing, McKay. Personally, I think it's great, but if you ever act on it…you'll have to be very careful. You know—regulations and all."
They shared a long, understanding look. Rodney nodded before turning to leave the table. Cadman watched him walk away. She grinned and thought if anyone ever deserved to be happy, it was Rodney McKay.
