The first thing Elizabeth Weir did when she received final confirmation of the Atlantis mission was to sit down with every member of a SGC gate team who'd ever been stranded off-world for more than 48 hours and ask them one simple question: what item or items would you have needed to have brought with you, to keep yourself alive and well if Earth had never been able to come back and get you?

Recommended because...

It's got the frontier-feel that I always wanted Atlantis to have, where they'd packed everything they could think of that would be useful in starting a colony, and they make intelligent command decisions. I'm not saying that they aren't ever intelligent on the show... but in this fic they really are the best and the brightest, and it's awesome.

...John and Rodney each have their own very different issues with suddenly being stranded in the City of the Ancients on another planet in another galaxy. This is a slow, feel-good character piece about them bonding (amongst other things) in the beginning.
